Soda bread, so simple to make. We love the aromas that fill the kitchen and the anticipation as the bread is placed on the hungry table.
- Prep: 20 mins
- Cook: 30 mins
- Yields: 1
Directions
Pre heat the oven 200C or 180C fan.
Sift the flours, salt, black pepper and baking soda. Add the cubed butter and with a light touch of your fingers, crumb together. Make a well in the centre and pour in the buttermilk and with a large pallet knife bring the dough together. Turn out onto a lightly flour surface, kneading gently with your hands to form a soft dough. This bread does not require much kneading, a smooth dough is all that is required and over-kneading will make the bread tough.
Shape the dough into a rough circle, place on a baking tray, sprinkle with flour and slash the top of the loaf with a cross. Pu straight into the oven and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden and a tap on the bottom sounds hollow. Enjoy the lovely aromas in your kitchen as the bread bakes. Cool slightly. Amazing served warm for breakfast with ice cold butter. So simple and truly delicious, enjoy.
